Language…a structured system of communication used by #humans, a system of conventional spoken, manual (signed), or written symbols by means of which human beings, participants in its culture, express themselves.
If #language is a broad term applied to the overall linguistic configurations that allow a particular people to communicate, then the functions of language include communication, the expression of identity, play, imaginative expression, and emotional release according to Britannica encyclopaedia.
It can also be a system of communication, used by the people of a particular country or region for talking or writing. So does the dominance of some languages destroy cultures and hinder communication?
Ngugi wa Thiong’o puts it this way, “Monolingualism is the carbon monoxide of culture and the multilingualism is the oxygen of culture”. How do you preserve, educate and communicate with others about your #heritage and #culture? More importantly how do you communicate you? It’s your heritage, write the narrative.
